Freestate is the successor to the first festival, which made such a name for itself in summer 2006. Now, five years later, at least 20 young Belgian artists (°1976 or later) will be exhibiting at unique locations in Ostend harbour. For this new summer exhibition, five young and impassioned curators engaged in selecting a presentation of young contemporary art.

Public School: Performance Art Today (Saturday 3/9, from 2 pm)

In the context of Freestate curator Laurence Dujardyn proposes a Public School class on the status of performance in art today. Starting at 2pm, the day will consist out of several performances and interventions by artists. Following onto that more than 20 bands will be playing a 12 hours FEVER-covermarathon, organized by Ültra Eczema/ Dennis Tyfus.
Pecha Kucha Night (Saturday 10 september, 20h20)

Pecha Kucha is Japanese and means noise or bla-bla, the sound of many people talking at the same time. The expression became popular as the dynamic event during which speakers each can use 20 slides or images that each can last 20 seconds, no more, no less. At the occasion of Freestate, a special Pecha Kucha edition takes place on September 10th.
